📖 What Happened to Mr Hepworth?

Official Book Launch & Special Event

An evening of truth, testimony and conversation.

📅 Saturday 7 November 2026
📍 North London
🎟️ Admission by ticket only

✨ Overview

From Head of Year to HMP Wormwood Scrubs. One flight home changed everything.

A powerful story of faith, betrayal, justice and life on remand — challenging assumptions, sharing experiences and opening conversations that matter.

Join us for the official launch of What Happened to Mr Hepworth? — A Story of Faith, Betrayal and Systems That Fail.

Hear directly from the author, L Hepworth, as he shares the deeply personal journey behind the memoir, with readings and extracts bringing his experiences to life.

The evening will also feature contributions from invited voices across education, prisons, criminal justice and faith-based ministry, exploring the wider questions the story raises about the institutions and systems we place our trust in.

This is more than a book launch. It's an invitation to listen, reflect, challenge assumptions and explore how we can make a difference.

Come and hear the story. Come and join the conversation.

💬 An Evening About Something Bigger

The book carries the subtitle A Story of Faith, Betrayal and Systems That Fail.

But the launch asks a different question:

What if systems didn't have to fail?

We want to bring together people from three important areas of society to explore how things can be done differently.

🎓 Education & Safeguarding

How do we better protect young people, support teachers and create environments where safeguarding, accountability and compassion work together?

What lessons can we learn when professional boundaries, safeguarding responsibilities and human relationships become complicated?

⚖️ Prisons & Criminal Justice

What is life really like for someone held on remand, awaiting trial and uncertain about their future?

How can we preserve dignity, humanity and hope for people in custody, while also supporting families and loved ones affected by imprisonment?

We'll explore the realities of prison life, rehabilitation, accountability and the importance of second chances.

⛪ Faith, Grace & Community Support

What does it mean to show grace when someone's life becomes complicated?

How can churches and faith communities reach people in prison, support families on the outside and stand alongside those facing accusations, isolation, imprisonment or personal crisis?

We'll explore the role of faith, practical compassion, forgiveness and community in helping people rebuild their lives.

Through personal testimony, invited speakers and open conversation, we hope to explore where change is needed — and how it can begin.

🌟 Be Part of the Conversation

This evening isn't about pretending that difficult situations have simple answers, or suggesting that institutions and systems will always get everything right.

It's about listening to different experiences, learning from one another and asking important questions.

It's about remembering that behind every headline, classroom, courtroom and prison door are real human beings, families and communities whose lives matter.

And it's about exploring what we can do to make things better.

Because systems can fail. But that doesn't mean they have to.

We hope you'll join us for an evening of reflection, hope and meaningful conversation.

What Happened to Mr Hepworth?

Faith. Betrayal. Justice. Grace. Hope.
